Pain on the right side of the body: what does it mean?

Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix and commonly presents as pain in the lower right part of the abdomen. This pain usually starts around the belly button and then localizes to the right. It may be accompanied by fever, nausea, and vomiting.

Gallstones can cause severe pain on the right side of the abdomen, especially after meals. This pain is known as biliary colic and can radiate to the back and right shoulder.
