Make the perfect homemade tomato sauce

  1. Prepare the tomatoes:
Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the tomatoes for 1 minute, then transfer to cold water. Peel off the skins easily and chop into cubes.
  2. Sauté onion and garlic:
Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion and sauté until soft (about 5 minutes).
Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Add tomatoes:
Stir in the chopped tomatoes, salt, pepper, sugar, and herbs.
  4. Cook the sauce:
Let it simmer on low heat for 45 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
  5. Blend (optional):
Use a hand blender or regular blender for a smooth consistency if desired.
  6. Store:
Pour the sauce into sterilized glass jars. Let it cool. Store in the fridge for 5–7 days or freeze for several months.
