At the station, they placed me inside an interview room beneath a blinking security camera.
Vanessa continued livestreaming from the lobby while my parents spoke to reporters outside, claiming they had finally exposed their “corrupt daughter.”
Detective Ross entered carrying a thick case file.
His name appeared beside three unexplained payments in our sealed investigation.
He spread photographs across the table.
“Your grandmother’s signature. Your bank account. The altered trust. Want to explain?”
“I want my attorney.”
“You don’t look worried.”
“I’m not.”
Ross leaned forward.
“Your badge won’t help you here.”
That was his mistake.
I had never mentioned possessing a badge.
I looked directly into the camera.
“Detective, how do you know I carry one?”
His jaw tightened.
He left without answering.
Five minutes later, a young desk officer entered to inventory my belongings.
He opened my wallet and found the black credential case beneath my driver’s license.
The moment he saw my photograph and the gold command insignia, he froze.
“Ma’am…” he whispered.
Then he snapped to attention.
“Call your chief,” I said. “Tell him to contact Deputy Attorney General Marcus Shaw through the secure line.”
The officer stepped into the hallway.
Voices rose outside.
Doors opened.
Someone swore.
Fifteen minutes later, Chief Daniel Harrow rushed into the room without his coat.
He stopped, lost all color, and saluted.
“Commander… we had no idea.”
My parents followed him inside.
