The following morning, Julian stormed into the reopening ceremony for the Vance Foundation.
Reporters surrounded the terrace.
I stood beside Garrison with Dr. Vance and several specialists nearby.
Julian pushed through the crowd holding Chloe’s paternity report.
“So this was your plan?” he shouted. “Find a rich man, get pregnant, and pretend you won?”
The terrace fell silent.
Garrison stepped forward.
“Leave.”
Julian laughed.
“You’re a retired county sheriff.”
“I am,” Garrison replied. “I’m also chairman of the Vance Medical Foundation, controlling partner of Vance Capital, and owner of the company that acquired your employer three months ago.”
Julian’s face went white.
Garrison continued.
“Your expense reports led our auditors directly to illegal clinic payments. Your company access was suspended this morning. Investigators already have the records.”
Julian turned toward me.
“You did this.”
“No,” I said. “I found what you did.”
Elena walked onto the terrace carrying several documents.
An asset-freeze order.
Notice of termination.
And an amended divorce complaint alleging fraud, forged documents, misuse of marital funds, and involvement in the clinic scheme.
Julian tore the first page.
A deputy standing nearby spoke calmly.
“Destroying the paper doesn’t cancel the order.”
Julian turned.
Two investigators were waiting behind him.
Even Chloe began backing away.
“You told me she couldn’t have children,” she said. “You told me the money was yours.”
Julian snapped that everything belonged to him.
I shook my head.
“Some of it belonged to me. Some belonged to your employer. None belonged to the clinic employee you paid.”
For the first time, his arrogance disappeared.
